BOVIE HF surgery

Promecon distributes the electrosurgery range of the American manufacturer Bovie Medical Corporation in German speaking countries. Bovie is the brand of the inventor of electrosurgery Dr William T. Bovie who developed the first electrosurgical instrument during his time at Harvard University. By now the Bovie Medical Corporation is one of the leading brands in electrosurgery worldwide.

For thousands of year people have used heat in the form of hot irons to treat wounds. Since the end of the 19th century heat could be produced through electric currents. In 1920 Dr William T. Bovie, an eccentric inventor with a doctorate in plant physiology, developed an innovative HF-unit within the scope of his work at Harvard University in Massachusetts that Harvey Cushing, the father of modern neurosurgery, introduced into clinical practice.

he first use of an electrosurgical generator in an operating room occurred on October 1, 1926, at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. A few days earlier (September 28, 1926) Dr. Cushing had been unsuccessful in removing a mass from a patient's head due to its highly vascular nature. In Dr. Cushing's note from October 1st, " ...with Dr. Bovie's help I proceeded to take off most satisfactorily the remaining portion of tumor with practically none of the bleeding which was occasioned in the preceding operation."

Single-use electrodes, sterile

All single-use electrodes use the standard 2.35 shaft made from stainless steel. The moulded on safety shaft insulation achieves highest safety for patients and users and an optimal and easy insertion into and removal from the electrode pencil.

Ball electrodes are available in 3 mm and 5 mm for surface coagulation and haemostasis, as well as needle electrodes for precise coagulation.

All single-use electrodes are manufactured to highest safety standards. They are sterile and packaged individually.

Reusable electrodes, non-sterile

All reusable electrodes use the standard 2.35 shaft made from stainless steel. They are non-sterile and packaged individually in a protective small box with foam padding.
The reusable electrodes can be steam autoclaved up to 25 times (loop electrodes (s.b.) up to 5 times.)

Resistick II - coated single-use electrodes, sterile

Resistick II‚ blade ball, and needle electrodes are expertly coated with PTFE (polytetrafluorethylene). They move through tissue smoothly, since they barely create any scab This makes them much more efficient for all surgical uses. Different from normal electrodes made of stainless steel, where blood clots and tissue tend to stick to the electrode, Resistick II‚ electrodes are effortlessly cleaned by wiping them with a moist sponge or cloth.

SuperCut™ tungsten needle electrodes

The SuperCut tungsten needle electrode is incredibly sharp and in contrast to usual stainless steel electrodes keeps its edge throughout the entire surgery.

The incredibly sharp SuperCut tip allows the surgeon to operate it at a lower performance level while still obtaining a highly fine cut. Available with the industry standard 2.35 cm shaft, in 3 and 4.5 cm lengths.

Single-use loop electrodes, sterile

All LLETZ loop electrodes, round and rectangular, are equipped with a tungsten filament for superior shape stability and integrity during the whole excision. They use a standard stainless steel shaft (2.35 mm). All shaped loops are individually packaged in a patented foam tray to prevent damage during transport.

Reusable loop electrodes, non-sterile

Monopolar electrode pencils, sterile and non-sterile

The Bovie monopolar electrode pencils can be controlled using two buttons and a rocker or foot switch. They can be delivered with or without protective sleeve and cleaning pad All single-use pencils come in sterile packaging The reusable pencils (ESPR) are validated for up to forty (40) autoclave cycles and can be delivered sterile or non-sterile.
